Beige has enough support

I love colour. Properly love it.

I love colours that shouldn’t technically work together but somehow do. Unexpected flashes of neon. Embroidery you can spot from the other side of the park. The particular thrill of finding something useful that also happens to be a really excellent shade of pink.

I have never understood why the practical things we use every day so often have to be the least interesting things we own.

That is probably why HIGGS looks the way it does.

Colour changes things

I genuinely believe colour can change how an ordinary day feels.

It won’t answer your emails, improve the weather or stop your dog rolling in something unspeakable—but it might make you feel slightly better while dealing with all three.

That matters to me. HIGGS was never meant to make sensible things in sensible colours that quietly disappear into the background. I want to make things that give you a little lift whenever you wear them, carry them or put them on the dog.

Things with energy, optimism and a point of view.

Bold doesn’t have to mean bonkers

Loving colour doesn’t mean throwing every available shade at something and hoping for the best.

Every HIGGS colour combination is considered. I spend a probably unreasonable amount of time deciding which embroidery works on which sweatshirt, whether a pink is the right pink and if adding one more colour would make something better—or tip it over the edge entirely.

The aim is bold, but wearable. Fun, but beautifully made. Distinctive without looking as though it is trying desperately to get everyone’s attention.

Although a little attention is no bad thing.

“Where did you get that?”

Some of my favourite messages from customers begin with somebody stopping them to ask where something came from.

A WALKIES cap noticed across a café. A colourful fleece spotted on the other side of the park. A sweatshirt that makes a stranger smile before either person has said a word.

I love that something I created can spark a conversation between two people who might otherwise have walked straight past one another.

That’s the joy of wearing something with personality. It says a little bit about you before you have to.

Inspired by the experts

Dogs don’t save their enthusiasm for special occasions. They don’t worry that something might be a bit much, and they have absolutely no interest in blending quietly into the background.

They find enormous joy in remarkably ordinary things—and I think they’re onto something.

That spirit sits behind everything I create for HIGGS: more curiosity, more optimism and more reasons to enjoy the everyday.

And considerably less beige.
